Dus iemand martelen met psychologische smerigheden valt niet onder de noemer ‘geweld’?

Gisteren om 18 uur thuisgekomen van het werk, en efkes, heel efkes op mijn bed gaan liggen. Om bij te komen van de voorbije dag dus. Buiten scheen het zonnetje doorheen een van de laatste mooie dagen van dit jaar en ik zou er van gaan genieten op m’n balkonnetje. Eerst efkes mijn oogskes toedoen…
Jaja, om half twaalf ‘s avonds deed ik mijn ogen weer open. Ik was ferm in slaap gesukkelt en ik heb daarbij heel de avond omzeep geslapen. De poes lag ook al opgekrult aan het voeteinde – dus wat hem betrof was dit al een regelrechte nachtrust.
Ik heb dan al mijn kleren uitgetrokken, ben onder de lakens gekropen en heb verder gemaft.
Je zult mij deze voormiddag niet horen geeuwen!

I am writing to express our concern about the sentence of death by stoning which was passed on Ms Amina Lawal, on 22 March, by a local court at Bakori in Katsina State.

It was particularly distressing to learn about this judgement in view of the recent and very welcome decision by the Appeal Court in Sokoto State to uphold the appeal of Ms Safiya Hussaini, who had also been sentenced to be stoned to death.

The sentence on Ms Hussaini provoked a world-wide wave of shock and revulsion. There was general disbelief that Nigerian women, living in a democracy, could be sentenced to such a cruel, inhumane and degrading punishment, which runs completely counter to the International Convention Against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhumane and Degrading Treatment and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

I urge you to use your wisdom of office and growing international respect to ensure that this sentence is not carried out.

Please ensure that all citizens of Nigeria – men and women – are protected by the rule of law, and in accordance with international standards of human rights, from such cruel, inhumane and degrading punishments as the sentence passed on Ms Amina Lawal.

As no other high-resolution commercial imaging satellites were in orbit on that fateful day, IKONOS was the only space-based camera able to capture this compelling visual chronology of the destruction and rebirth. The imagery provides a special perspective to this story that couldn’t be achieved with hand-held cameras on the ground or even cameras mounted in airplanes.

NATO headquarters will hold a 30-minute commemorative ceremony at 2:20 p.m. CET (1220 GMT). The ceremony will include remarks by NATO Secretary-General George Robertson and U.S. Ambassador to NATO R. Nicholas Burns, a prayer of remembrance and a minute of silence. Attendees will include staff members of NATO delegations, the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council missions, Mediterranean Dialogue countries as well as international and military staff.
